The Ultimate Guide to Wellness

You may have heard about 'wellness' but do you really know what it means? Here is Scottish Slimmers' ultimate guide to all things wellness and what you can do to add more wellness into your life in 2018!

What is wellness?
‘Wellness’ is health. It's all about feeling healthier and stronger which happens when you eat healthy food, lose some weight and get a wee spring in your step. That feeling of ‘wellness’ shines out of you. It’s when people notice and pay you lovely compliments. It’s mainly your physical state and your health. That’s wellness.

Wellbeing is something different altogether - it's more a state of being happy and content and a feeling that your life is going well. It’s positive emotions like confidence and happy moods. In short ‘wellness’ is your physical state and ‘wellbeing’ is your state of mind. They are both really important factors to pay attention to in your weight loss journey.

Add more wellness into your life
Now that you understand a bit more about wellness, it's time to introduce it into your life in 2018. Here are our favourite wellness tips for you to follow:

Drink more water
It's something that everyone says all of the time, but that's only because it's so important! Water is needed to produce saliva and help digest the food we eat. It's also needed for flushing out and detoxifying the body and for proper brain and liver function. Aim to drink 1 litre per 50lbs of bodyweight (and more if you're exercising!) to keep your body hydrated.

Eat more green veggies
It's widely known that consuming more vegetables and fruit can prolong life, yet most people still don't get their recommended 5 portions per day! Consuming more fruit and veg will pack more nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants into your diet.

Move more!
Exercise can feel a bit daunting if it's not already a regular part of your routine, but stick at it! Exercise releases happy hormones and get your blood moving around your body. Don't feel like you have to run a marathon - fitting in 15 minutes of active movement into your day will make all the difference. So opt for the stairs instead of the escalator, leave the car at home and walk to work or go for a walk during your lunch break.

Get a better night sleep
Getting enough sleep has a positive effect on everything from brain function and heart health to emotional wellbeing. It can improve alertness and memory, reduce stress and obesity and generally helps you to live healthier and longer! If you're having trouble sleeping, try some yoga or have a warm bath to help unwind.
