QuestionHi, I am facing my toughest test yet working away from home in Greenock for 2 or 3 days a week, living out of a hotel for 1 or 2 nights a week - as well as nearly 5 hours of travelling either side!

The forum has already been excellent for finding out what to do and where to eat, but how am I going to help my mind to keep me from consuming every check going?

If I were you babe, I'd just go to the supermarket and buy things you know the check value of. It's only a couple of days a week and tempting as it may be to use the hotel services food-wise, it will benefit your weight-loss journey if you don't take advantage of any of them. You'll feel a huge sense of achievement too which will spur you on and keep you going. Have low check snacks and fruit in your room and your bag too. That way you'll never be tempted to be bad coz you won't go hungry.

Hi Rhona, thats not a bad idea.  I know there is a Safeways opposite the hotel.  You have given me the idea of having my main meal at lunch time with a microwave meal (as there is a microwave at the offices I am told) and a salad/sandwich at the hotel bought from the shop.

Through the forum I have a selection or sandwich bars and eateries with a good selection within the checks allowance as well now.

As you say, keeping low check snacks and fruit nearby at all times will be vital to coping with snack attacks.

good luck, it can be really difficult when away from home.

Good luck - this is alsways a huge challenge for me when away from work - a battle between wanting the food 'because it's paid for'... and wanting to reach my slim target weight.

Something I do with moderate success is hava a scan of the buffet/menu and then get used to planning ahead and making food choices before entering the restaurant.  Once you have your food at the table it should be easier to resist temptation, you just have to get past the buffet or the waiter taking the order.  Make quick choices, snap the menu shut and drink lots of water with your meals.

Are there other things about the hotel that you could enjoy to feel that you were enjoying the pampering/value for money siade of things?  Eg is there a pool/gym/sauna?  Could you use all the free toiletries on a pampering sesison.  Use every towel in the bathroom and fill the bath to overflowing??? Not very environmentally friendly I know, but for a few nights it might give you the psychological edge, the feeling of being pampered, without needing to over indulge in the food offerings....

Good luck!

see how many free soups you like and try and take them with you, if you can get to a microwave or even ask the kitchen staff if they would heat it up then you can fill up on them and have more checks to spend on your meals. Most places should do that for you

how have you been getting on up in scotland these days?
Super Slimmer

Thanks for asking slim-mb, I do better in Scotland than at home (and definately better than on holiday).  I am in a routine in Scotland, having 1 small yogurt and 1 fruit portion with 2 weetabix for breakfast, 1 fruit portion and 1 small yogurt for a snack, a sandwich or salad from the M & S count on us range, and a microwave meal from the M & S count on us range for dinner.

I take a packet a day of my SS cookies and a packet a day of sunbites.

I do treat myself to a 3 check snack from M & S (carrot dipper) for the afternoons.

I have also discovered I do not have to do without my vegetables, I buy a plain salad to have with my sandwich at lunch and I buy a packet of mixed microwave fresh vegetables to have with my dinner.

After gaining 6lbs last week I am hoping to lose most of my holiday weight gain this week.

Have a good week.
