Here it is - a shiny new page to start 2009!
To begin the year as we began the original challenge thread, please put your hand on your heart and type these words into a post below:
I solemnly declare that I am SICK and TIRED of my wobbly tum [insert appropriate body parts here. Text only, no pics please!]
... and THIS TIME I WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!
Good luck to everyone, whatever your goals are for the year ahead....

I'm starting back at class next week and until then, it's babysteps for me as I try to re-acquaint my body to the idea of balanced meals and exercise.
I've ordered a Boost mag but other than that I'm buying no books, no equipment, no shiny new gym clothes... I've bought it all before and the only thing I need to add now is willpower.
It's freezing outside so my exercise for the day will be housework...... need to burn off some of the roast dinner I will be eating later.
I have a freezer full of food and so plan to start some batch cooking for things to take to work next week. I want lovely food that will be nicer than the canteen offers so I'll have to make an effort. So far, I'm thinking:
Ham and butterbean soup made with home slow cooked gammon.
Chicken and potato chowder
Fresh baked bread (I can make up the dough and shape it for the freezer in advance)
Spicy tomato and lentil soup
pasta bolognese
chilli with potato wedges
Mmmmm.... s'pose I will have to count the cals as I throw them into the cooking pots....

I don't have a recipe yet

I was planning to look one up or make one up. Usually I would use a ham hock and boil it to make the stock but I only have a chunk of gammon which I plan to use in meals and then chuck the leftovers in the soup. Quite possibly I will chuck 1/2 bag frozen casserole veg plus some extra onions in a pan with 1.5 litre ham stock, black pepper and mixed herbs. Cook til veg is tender (25mins?) then puree with blender, poss reserving large mug of chunky veg. Add drained can butter beans plus chopped gammon stock plus reserved chunky veg and stir through while bringing back to a low simmer.

I'm as determined as I was on the previous Arse Kick Challenge .....and a change of scenery won't make a difference to my resolve.
My plan is to rejoin a class asap, and if YH is reading this later, maybe she can tell me if Rutherglen, Sat morning 3rd Jan is on ....if not then I'll rejoin next week.
I like the discipline of attending a class, and combined with pep and writing/biting, its my intention to get to a target this year. I want to lose weight....BUT..my main aim is to treat my body with more respect, and feel good about myself.
I've been kind of watching what I've been doing over the past two weeks, but eating more...and guess what?? I'm 3 pounds heavier. I was 12st 8 on the 19th Dec.......and I don't want to weigh myself(but I will!!!)after everything I've eaten today.
Target could be mine..in 2009.
Emmjay1
Jan 2 2009, 02:15 AM
Incidently......I've lost fourteen pounds since the last challenge started in July2008.That post was the equivalent of my blue blanket!.
smile&behappy4
Jan 2 2009, 11:21 AM
Well done Emmjay - thats a fab weigh loss and you sound really determined this year too
I currently weigh 13stone 4lb, I have set myself an aim that in 3 months time I hope to lose 18lbs to take me down to 12stone
6lbs a month which I think is achievable
I need to - - plan my meals in advance, be prepared and have all the food in I need
- take my own meals to work instead of relying on canteen food
- make sure I have at least 5 f&v a day
- keep drinkin at least 1.5l of water a day
- plan and save for any meals/nights out - instead of clawing back checks after
- get more exercise after we move house - we are moving down beside a river with a lovely cycle path so we are taking our bikes and will get out at least once a week as well as walking more
What's your targets/aims for the next few months and whats going to help you achieve them?

Morning everyone ! (just

)
Great progress EmmJay and great goals Lindsey.
I have just made a huge pan of free soup and I feel like I am catching up on all the nutrients I've skipped over Christmas....

Last official day of leave today so am enjoying a bit of sewing and doing a bit of housework.
Happy Friday everyone
GinFizz
Jan 2 2009, 03:54 PM
Mmmmm, just had slow cooked gammon with mash and peas for lunch/tea (was too full on soup to have proper lunch at lunchtime).
Am going to have more gammon tomorrow and freeze the rest in controlled portions.
Am currently cooking lamb and coconut curry. It's my fave recipe turned a bit experimental. I've added frozen baby sweetcorn and runner beans to pad it out and make the naughty coconut cream go further......
Am also de-cluttering and sewing so keeping my hands busy between meals....

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Yay it's back!!!!
Can't wait to get gossiping and kicking arse again!!

Great goals Linds - Very achievable because when you are good, you are good and you know it!
Ginfizz I wish I was your flatmate.. I would love to taste all of your creations!!

Well, for me I am sitting at the lightest I have been in about 3 months.. Can't quite believe it because I haven't been particularly saintly but have been trying to watch what I'm doing... Jon's granny usually tells me if I put on weight (see old folk!!!! haha!) but today she said it looked like I had lost some

Sitting at 11st 9lbs. Target is 10st.
Let the challenge begin!

Here's the original recipe:
http://www.recipes4us.co.uk/Lamb%20MC/Lamb...n%20100mins.htmI use 2 tsp rather than tbsp oil and 1lb very lean lamb instead of 2lb, and add 1lb of whatever veg I have. Green beans and baby sweetcorn worked really well, though I'd add the beans just before the end as they lost their colour with the long cooking

Can I join you please? I am sick and tired of all my wobbly bits and all the time I've wasted trying to get this job done. I have obviously not tried hard enough so here goes- 1 stone to go starting......NOW!!
I've had my usual Oaty porridge for breakfast with some lovely fresh-ground coffee. I've also said a reluctant Goodbye to the Christmas cake and Stollen- hubby can finish those but may allow myself a little popcorn which my DIL had bought but not eaten- it's fairly low in fat and not too bad in SMALL quantities.
Gill2005
Jan 3 2009, 10:31 AM
Goodluck with your stone Rita! - Popcorn is lovely.. I find it very more-ish though!
Raring to go today too.. Heading into town later to do a spot of shopping.. Think I might treat myself to a new juicer as I've used my other one so much that its getting a bit worn looking!
Have a good day everyone!

Everyone enjoy your shopping and what ever else you have planned today! x

Just stocked up on fresh fruit and veg and bought a ham hock for making soup at some point. Was very good in Sainsbury's. Shopped with a list and stuck to it.
Still not counting, but will begin that when I go back to class next week.
Well done everyone for getting this far xx

Tired and a tad jaded with the festive eating and drinking, looking forward to fresh pep meals!
I'd like to take more exersise in 2009!
I'm thinking I'd like to see a reasonable difference to myself and my attitude by the meet in March!

Somehow managed to eat a few nuts last night but not many cos I had to shell them myself and I had been given a chocolate lollipop thing that you dip into warm milk to make your own drink so I had to have that as it was a present- I did it with skimmed milk though

. So all in all I probably went over but it was a vast improvement over the last 3 weeks!!

Evening!
Today was quite a challenge as wanted to eat all day

. Just have to get through until bedtime and that will be another day within checks!
Rita I wouldn't have been able to stop at a few nuts

even if I was peeling them myself

. Lindsey good luck for this week!
Can't believe it is back to work tomorrow, could do with another week or so off!!

Hope everyone has had a good day! xx

Afternoon folks!
I bloody STS today. No impressed. Got TOTM today (yes, TMI I know!) so I'm scunnnnered. Och well... Here's to next week then!
How is everyone today? Is that everyone back to work?

Peeling nuts yourself... Too much hassle for me.. Just give me the bag of roasted peanuts!

Weighed in my own scales at 12.12 this morning(thats pounds...not the time)
So....heid down...arse up.
Started back at work this morning, so at least there is some structure to my day.
Damn blast and buckets of blood...Peter threw out my Sunday Mail in the blue bin last night..bang goes the free joining voucher.
Ho Hum....I'll still go on Saturday, but I think I'll stick to the Glo.
How good would it be to be a size twelve...I mean a proper size twelve...no camel toes or holding in the undulating belly for twenty minutes at a time.
That is my aim.
A proper size twelve...irrespective of weight.
Clearly, the weight loss is a huge factor in this ambition of mine....but a size twelve, top and bottom.
Had my brunch at 11.30 this morning, because it was either scraping the car...or eating. The car won, and because I hadn't used it since the 18th Dec, I had to scrape the inside as well........
Have a lovely day everyone.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello everyone...
I had chip shop chips for lunch today......
Started with all good intentions but had to defrost car for 20 mins this morning (I was frozen inside as well as out too, MJ!) and so ran out of time to defrost lunch. Brough bag of fruit for nibbles but arrived at work to find the heating not on (and hadn't been since 24 Dec), so sat huddled in coat all morning while it slowly came on and finally went to chippy for lunch in freezing despair.
I'm not back on PEP 'officially' yet, but chips for lunch on Day 1 back at work is a bloomin disgrace!
Well done to those who are doing better than me.

Afternoon all! After a prolonged absence, I am back, fatter than ever and even tireder than when the christmas holiday started. Not to mention broke! But I am back at my class tomorrow (which shut for a few weeks before Christmas, and as a result I think I'm tipping over 12 stone) and am going to do something about it!
Mmm, chippy chips (doing my best Harry Hill impersonation...)

Oh Gill, hope you're feeling better today.
Yay - hello Eleanor! Are you recovered from your ear lurgy yet? It's lovely to see you back anyway.....
I got a flat tyre on the way home form work yesterday and had to wait ages to get it changed and then went home and overate to compensate.....
One day to weigh in day though so am planning to be sensible today to wean myself back onto the PEP slowly.......

Jan 6 2009, 12:08 PM
Morning everyone. Slept in until 8.15 this morning. What a habble trying to get out.
No breakfast again this morning. This is not good.
However, faced with a plethora of sweeties and tins of chocolates through in the staff room, I had 2 tangerines and 3 oatcakes.
I've been listening to my hypnotherapy tape, and twice I've fallen asleep..Sunday night and last night.
It could be suggesting anything.....
I remembered to take mince out the freezer last night, so it spag bol for tea.
I heard a Mum offering her ten year old son a wee surprise for being good in the clinic this morning.....(this is genuine)......the suprise was a sausage roll.
Fat camp would have been kinder....what chance has the kid got??
All this nutritional education in schools and incentives to eat wisely...and the Mum's trajectory stops at Greggs..
I feel a blog coming on...I won't clutter up the thread.
Have a lovely day everyone......xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I am dancing! Kind of! Despite not going to class since November 25th, I only put on 3lb, which is only just short of a miracle given how much I ate and drank.
Decided the weather was too rubbish for words this morning so slapped some coconut perfume and am in a tropical paradise...
