Full Version: My Daughter Isn't Well - I Want To Escape To The Gym!

Chickadee
As the title says...my wee girl is unwell and I want to escape to the gym! Long story short - had to contact NHS24 yesterday and take her to an out of hours GP as over the past week what was a wee cough got much worse, rattly and her temp spiked at 103.4 on New Year's night.

GP said it's a viral thing but is very similar to asthma so gave her an inhaller & nebuliser (spelling?) as she's only 4. It does seem to be helping but tonight she's deathly white due to tiredness, has big panda eyes from lack of sleep and wanted to sleep in my bed. Not a problem...until she took such a coughing fit and vomited all over herself and my bed.

Nothing gives me the bolk (spelling??!) like vomit puke.gif . I can cope with anything - spilt head, diahorrea, bloody lips - but not vomit. I had to run to get her new pj's, trying not to be sick myself, while hubby stripped the bed and cleaned her up. I feel terrible but I couldn't help!

Even when they were both little and had very upset tums, I could cope with it when it turned everyone else's stomach but vomit...OMG y_shock.gif !!!

Am I bad for wanting to escape to the gym??

Aw no you're not bad at all! I don't have kids but I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting a bit of time to yourself, especially when you've been so psyched up for a fresh start!

Hope the little one is ok xx

Cinderella
Hi Chickadee - you sound just like me with vomit - I can't stand it either.

And no you're not bad for wanting to escape to the gym. I was looking forward to having a couple of hours to myself tomorrow but my daughter isn't well also so it'll be a trip to the docs and lots of tlc. 1983.gif

no your not, i've got a three year old and when there unwell, only wanting mummy and want to be where you are all the time wanting a little space and a breather is not unrealistic. Getting it is another matter!
Chickadee
OMG now I feel like a total horror mum! I didn't mean that I wanted to escape my wee girl...it's just that today is day 1 of the new me - the new PEP and going to the gym regularly! With her being unwell, I had a selfish thought and wanted to carry on as planned. I snuggled up in my bed with her for a while until she was really dopey and ready for sleeping then I kissed her, tucked her in with a teddy and went to the gym. I'm so glad I did as it looks like I'll be in all day tomorrow with 2 unwell children!
Cinderella
Hi chickadee. Hope you enjoyed the gym today glad you managed to get some "me" time and start your routine.

Hope kids are better soon too - nothing worse than sick weans - my daughter is loaded with a heavy cold, sore ears and throat - have given her all the pain relief she can have till 3 am and it's not working - arrrghhh it's going to be a long night!!!!

Catch up with you later. xxx
Chickadee
Cinderella...I can totally sympathse with you tonight. Hubby is in with our daughter and I'm in with our wee boy tonight. He's been really restless already.

xx
Skippy
how are the kids today?
Tutti Frutti
oh no, what a shame - the poor wee mite. She wasn't well last year at new year if I remember rightly. Hope she feels better soon and you get some peace!

OMG no Chick I totally sympathise hug.gif my 18 month old went through the same virus for 3 weeks before xmas. He was given anti biotics twice before the third doc diagnosed virus and asthma related illness, where all the issues are in the upper airways rather than chest and lungs.

He was being sick everytime he ate and every night when he slept - we were all exhausted to say the least. I had to take a week off work to look after him. The doc gave him an inhaler and spacer the first time but he is too wee to understand how to use it. Next visit he was given Subutimol syrup by ventolin and the diff is fantastic. He has it on repeat prescription and has to take it thourgh out the winter to help his airways and to help him fight other viruses he comes across.

Just as he got better my husband got a virus and was taken to hospital in an ambulance after coughing up blood, a week and a half later he was taken to hosp again with kidney stones. Not been a great xmas and new year here.

Thankfully both on the mend now and back at work and nursery and I have today and tomorrow as hold before being back at work on Thu and guess what......I feel rough, sore bones, headache, sore throat and bloked up - how typical!

So I totally sympathise with you and beleive me getting to the gym for an hour (if you can) will do you the world of good - chin up xx

Chickadee
Miss Broxi...OMG what a month you've had! Sometimes I think GP's are too quick to brush us off with a quick diagnosis when we know there's something more to it. I'm so glad you got it sorted eventually. I'll bear it in mind with my wee girl this week incase she doesn't pick up much with the penecillin. She's got the inhaller and spacer and is managine to use it - it has been helping her so far. Your husband...is he ok now? It must have been really frightening. I always joke with mine that when the kids or I are ill, he has to be too - looking for sympathy!!!

This morning my wee girl woke with a raging temperature, achey body, sensitive to light, sore tummy and was very emotional. A trip to the GP and she was given penecillin as he thinks it's an infection now rather than a virus. Hopefully this will work. He told me to keep her off nursery this week as whatever she has is infectious. Great!

My wee boy is still snuffly - I'm hoping he's just got a cold.

I really enjoyed goin to the gym last night and when you think of it, an hour isn't much time to want to myself! Hubby is at work til 5pm today then he's going grocery shopping as there's no way I'm dragging he children to the shops.

Today I'm nurse and will get some housework done in between topping up drinks, plumping pillows and giving medicine!

Tutti Frutti - how do you remember about last year??! Yes, she wasn't well - chickenpox hit 2 days before Christmas and lasted until New Year's Day!

Chickadee and Miss broxi... you have my every sympathy. What a nightmare!!

[size="6"]You have had a fair bit of illness with your children lately chickadee. I know exactly why you would want a bit of me time .. not at all selfish but honest. Exercise makes you feel good too so you must have been craving those feel good hormones.

As for the vomit !!!!!! I have a phobia of vomiting both in myself ( I have never been sick ) or other people . An utter terror so much that I once put a towel over my little girls head so I couldnt see her being sick.. I used to
abandon my poor kids and leave it to my husband. I was fine with the clearing up but couldnt go near the ill child or husband. I have been known to get out of a car on holiday because someone felt car sick or spend the night on a beach rather than be in the holiday challet with a sick husband. I felt so guilty and uncaring but just beyond my control..

I hope your families start to feel better son and you can allget some well needede rest
