Full Version: Should I Buy A Padlock?

Hi All

My problem is that I live with an extremely active, thin partner who likes the odd bar of chocolate, eats biscuits sometimes etc. I therefore can't avoid having these tempting things around.

Any tips for stopping myself eating these, short of locking the cupboard? I don't like to ask my other half to stop me because I feel like I should be developing more willpower somehow, and don't want him to be my food police! cop.gif

Any advice appreciated!

Get him to hide them is a start.

I personally have to go cold turkey! Break the habit and then my taste does change.(yeah after about 5 weeks). But could go back to choc easy anytime.

Some people have lower check choc in the house for emergencies.

Me I just eat the lost emergency or no emergency. So Cold turkey for me.

Get him to buy the choc bars you don't like(if there are any) or even your least favourites.

Tell yourself they are his and not yours and you can't have them.

Sorry not much help, maybe someone else will have better tactics.

You could each have your own cupboard for treats (and if you like the same things, if you buy a multipack you can put one or two for treats in your cupboard).

Portion packs of biscuits are great - I love individually wrapped lotus biscuits. If you love chocolate, my advice is to always have something you can count so you are not tempted by an 8 - 10 check bar. Green & Blacks individual squares are just one check each. Steer clear of snacksize variety bags if you can - the temptation to have one of each is often too strong (mini boxes of heroes / celebrations are good if you have saved checks / willpower).

As bookhunter said, try your own cupboard. I do that - and basically what's in my other halfs is his, and what's in mine is mine. Haha, even our son has his own wee cupboard. You might still be tempted, but hopefully not as much

Someone suggested to me about putting choc in the freezer 10mins before having it, if you're going to have it, it'd last longer!!

Good luck!! 2thumbs.gif x

My hubby's the same, but a lot taller than me, so I buy goodies for him that I don't realy like and because he is tall, I gave him a cupboard that I find difficult to reach. So when I do get the cravings I have to make a real effort to reach them and its not worth it because I don't realy like them. If that makes sense shucks.gif

At 5 foot nothing I really like the high cupboard idea 2thumbs.gif I haven't sorted cupboards yet, was on list for this weekend actually, but I've now got the cold and don't know if I'll get round to it. Will keep you posted though! Thanks for asking:)

Being vertically challenged myself, i chose to have the lower cupboard. Too much hassle having to find something to stand on laugh.gif
Hope you're rid of the cold soon 1983.gif x
