Full Version: Ditch The Car For One Journey A Day!
Scottish Slimmers > Positive Attitude > Are you up for a friendly Challenge?

I've just finished my first week and had a fantastic loss. Sitting pondering and reflecting on that and it struck me - I was car-less last week! My husband has a van, I have a car and we don't really walk anywhere. We go for walks with our son and the dog but on a day to day basis we jump in and out of the cars without thinking about it. Even just round the corner to nursery or the shops.

I don't think I'm alone in this and would like to try and ditch one journey a day in the car. Take the nursery run for example - I drop my son off and head straight to work but if I was more organised I could leave a wee bit earlier, walk to nursery and back to the house then head to work. Every little helps!

So, who is up for joining? We can 'check in' every day with details of which jounrey you ditched the car for and how you managed!

I'll join you Heather!

I generally try and leave my car anyway, only try to keep car usage to a minimum, so I'm in smile.gif

I have ditched car .. for the reason that I have packed up work!!

the last week... have clocked up miles and my legs feel the benifit... so do my furry boys!! My beloved was on four day shifts and i had no choice... but have to say really enjoying it!

id love to walk more often on work days, but i just dont have the time, after putting the kids into school, i dont have the time to walk. i have left the car a bit further away from work but then at the other end in inpacts when i get back to picking the kids up

but im not making excuses, id just love to fit it in
on my days off i walk a lot more, to the ss class and back, just under 5 miles, started this about 6 weeks ago and i really enjoy it 2thumbs.gif

I don't drive, so usually get the bus into town. Starting today tho, i am walking the 30mins each way (i work 10-2, so have time to do this 2thumbs.gif ) Love how the fresh air makes me feel - and i save £6.50 on my weekly bus ticket too - bonus!!!!!! x

I've been walking a lot more lately - morning and night - it really does lift your spirits up. The mornings are so crisp and fresh it wakes me right up before the whole world is awake and the dogs are loving it too smile.gif

I try and leave the car whenever possible, but sometimes it's not practical though think I scored a point today - took the car for a puncture repair and left it, walked home and then back again to pick it up - granted it was only 20 mins away but it was still better than sitting waiting 30 mins to be taken. Only bad news - 2 new tyres needed so that'll hit the purse hard sad.gif

Thanks for joining in everyone!

I totally appreciate how hard it is with dropping of kids and trying to get to work on time. It's my day of today and needed to go down the street to pick up a perscription after doing the nursery run. Rather than driving to nursery then down the street I walked to nursery and back then took the car down the street. In an ideal world I'd be walking down the street too but it's all about baby steps!

Most days I have to drive to work as I travel a lot and when I'm at College I have to much to carry confused.gif but I love to walk 2thumbs.gif so I need a few bibs and bobs to get from down town and I'm not working till 2pm so trainers here I come, It's a beautiful day, here so thanks for the little push 2thumbs.gif

well day off today so walked to nursery and home again, was going to walk to pick her up but the sky man phoned to say he would arrive between 12-3, nursery finishes at 12 so used the car, dont have time in the mornings when i'm working to drop them both off at childminders but i am going to make a big effort to walk to pick her up from nursery everyday

My journey to work is 16miles there and 16miles back so I dont think a 32mile walk is within my reach, lol.

good luck to all of you walking more though! xxxx

Well done Heather for such a fantastic start to your weight loss. I like to walk as much as possible and I think getting outside in the fresh air definitely makes you feel more positive. Let's hope this spring weather continues. I'll definitely be getting outside and walking as much as possible to improve my weightloss.

ok, really widening the goal posts here, and am gonna walk to work tomorrow (just cos i dont have to do school run)

It should take me about an hour or hour 15 smile.gif (ten mins in car lol)
heather_D
wow that's an amazing goal - go for it!!!

I know how hard it is fitting in a walk, even the 5 minutes extra it would take me on the mornings I'm working is needed to drop my son of and get to work at time but every little helps!!
Jaye33
i did it 2thumbs.gif it was no bother actually, and took me less time than i thought, about 50mins

and i might just do it tomorrow again 2thumbs.gif
