Oh princessjc hope the pain has subsided for you

I have IBS so know how you feel, Mine's comes and gos, if I get stressed it plays up really bad, or if I have Bran that is leathal, Everyone is different and you will find out by trial and error which foods suit you best and which to avoid, I drink a lot of water that seems to help, also having breakfast is a must, I find that Special k with raisins really helps, hope you feel better soon

As Simmyhx said each person has a different trigger and its just trying to figure out what it is for you. When I was very slim, I was diagnosed with ibs - which I think was a misdiagnosis, bread was what made me ill then , but as I put on weight that went, but I did read a lot about it, and the doctor should have as well as given you the meds, which I assume are to deal with the symptoms as it will be either a food or external condition i.e. stress that triggers it, he should have told you to keep a food diary (which i assume your already doing through SS) and then from that work out the days you feel the worst, and try eliminating some foods to get to the bottom of what is your trigger. You should also keep in mind that some doctors are too quick to dismiss some people with ibs because thats the easiest peg to put you in. My boss for years was told she had ibs, turned out she actually has coeliacs disease, which is an entirely different thing and involves a huge dietary change. ibs should be managed by avoiding the foods or situation that trigger you so that you are not permanently taking the meds, they should be taken only when the ibs symptoms flare up. If its still not under control in 3 months you should go back to your gp and ask for further investigations.

That depends entirely on whether you think they trigger your IBS. If they do you should avoid it - if not, go for it!!

could it be the milk? Maybe you have an intolerance to dairy or cows milk. That would give you the same symtoms as ibs. Maybe try soya milk or goats milk, both are much nicer than they used to be.

i also suffer from ibs, i know what foods i can and cant eat and stress also triggers it, i limit myself to 2 bit of wholemeal bread every day and have to watch my veg intake as well.
keep a diary of your day and see if there is a pattern of foods that trigger an episode.
hope this helps

Just a thought tho! don't change everything at once as then you won't know what works, maybe go back to special k but keep the same milk or alternate to see if there is a difference, here's hoping you get relief shortly, good luck

As Sammyhx said, dont omit all these things at once, for a week try going back to SpecialK but still using your regular milk, if your symptoms go, you'll know it was your branflakes therefore avoid anything with bran in it. If no change and your still getting the symptoms, try changing the milk. If you use yogurt it would have be soya yogurt or yogurt made from another milk producing animal i.e. goat. Natural yogurt still comes from cows - its just off milk really!
