biggrin.gif   Hi everyone, welcome once again to the Online Class. I'm back again after Tracy kindly stepped in for me last week and did a fantastic job for us all, so a huge thank you Tracy.

Now then, you might all be wondering what it is I am going to "talk" about today, then wonder no more. Today, I will be "speaking" of socialising and how to cope with these situations where food is present and the drink is flowing.

I myself am going out with my friend to a Chinese restaurant this week and am very much looking forward to it, but am aware that I am only a pound from my target weight and don't want to blow it with over-indulging on food.

So, what can we do about it? Well, we shouldn't avoid going out altogether, but think ahead. The word PLANNING comes to mind again. If we don't know the check value of a meal, then we can guess it to be around 30 checks. In reality it could be anywhere between 15 - 50 checks, but it is better to account for it in some way than none at all.

Also, if it contains cream, cheese or mayonnaise in it or has been deep-fried or oozes with oil then it is going to be higher in checks also.

It is also worth considering if you need to eat a whole three courses. If you can get away with a "light" soup and a main meal then this is best, a big piece of chocolate cake with lashings of cream on it is obviously going to put on the weight. As the saying goes "A moment of the lips and a lifetime on the hips" (I think thats how it goes anyway!).

Right anyway, on with the RESULTS of last weeks weigh in. Well, EVERYONE did remarkably well, but rebelsue2 deserves a special mention. She has been a real trouper and lost 2 and a half pounds this week, making this her FIRST stone she has lost. WELL DONE Sue!!  winner.gif

As always Pete is losing - 5lbs again this week! I don't know how you're managing Pete (probably lots of exercise and healthy eating), but keep it up! 2thumbs.gif .

And altogether we lost just over a STONE and a HALF!!! With a small 9 and a half pound gain. Thats not bad eh? We should all be PROUD of ourselves.

Well, without much further ado now, can I ask you to step forward and let us know your results for this week...

GOOD LUCK!  1983.gif .
fiona&jennifer
Well done rebelsue and Pete. I've lost 1.5lbs this week, making 9.5lbs in total. Getting there!

Very timely talk, as always it seems. Got lots of eating out planned for the next few week. Tomato-based sauces instead of creamy ones, and EITHER starter or dessert (but not both) - that's going to be my game plan. And offset with more exercise, if I can.

biggrin.gif  Well done!!! You're doing GREAT! Good luck with the eating out too. I would agree with you to have either a starter or a dessert, but not both. And keeping up with the exercise too, always a good idea! Take care, Catrina. x

Yeah great talk Catrina! I dont wi until Saturday but I just wanted to mention about if you are entertaining at home, it doesnt have to be a complete pep disaster.

On saturday, I had a few friends round, and although I was very tempted to buy the sausage rolls, chicken wings, crisps and dip, I didnt, and I made a huge platter of crudites with my cx free salsa and low cx garlic dip. I also made a fruit salad, with a yogurt dip. I did buy one small packet of tortilla chips, but you know what - everyone demolished the veggies and fruit and hardly touched the chips, so what does that tell you???

So instead of me consuming anywhere between 15-25 cxs on nibbles and fatty foods, I probably had about 4cxs in the entire evening!

Hi Rosie, I did put on a reply earlier to you and Pete but for some strange reason it is no longer on. I just said well done on the dips and fruit salads and things as they would probably be more appetizing than crisps anyway and better for you. Take care. x

smile.gif   Hi Tracey, sorry to hear you're not well just now. That meal sounds yummy!  lipsmacking.gif . I've never tried St David's Chicken before, but I have heard of it and seen it in the PEP book, so I might give it a go sometime.

Well done on the PLANNING Tracey, I'm sure it will pay off for next week. Take care and glad I can't catch any of these nasty viruses online (well the cold type anyway)! x   hug.gif .

Ok, thanks for reporting in Shirls. I don't know what happened yesterday either when the posts "mysteriously" vanished! Hope I hadn't said something I shouldn't have and the Hostess or Super Hostess took it off! I don't think I did anyway. Oh well, good luck for next week. A sts is always better than a gain I say. Oh Catrina, how I wish I had logged on and read your talk sooner surrender.gif I have been on holiday and had several social events last week and was not planned at all. I over indulged all over the shop shucks.gif I did do a lot of walking over the weekend which has probably made this less of a gain but I'm afraid to say I have had my biggest gain ever since starting SS. I put on 2.5 lbs this week. I am new to coming to online class every week though and am finding now it is a motivator to contribute to the overall loss for the week and not spoil it by putting on! So, next week I hope to report a loss - and when I do it'll be thankis to all of you folks 2thumbs.gif

Well done everyone this week, I love reading all the reports on this thread 1983.gif

Geat post catrina possibly just what I need as it's my hubbies birthday on Saturday and we are going away for the night. The place we are going to is very remote so the meals are going to be rather set, but I will look for good alternatives and make my choices wisely. I STS this week so I need a virtual kick up the bum!

I've put on 1 lb this week. confused.gif Husband's birthday at the weekend, chinese meal - spooky that the talk started with that kind of thing- and family trips out over last few days. Have had to have a couple other meals out and about without planning for it and tried make good choices. Overall I've noticed all the times I could have, and would normally have, eaten more than I actually did so that's a good thing. I'm not surprised about my gain this week but am disappointed with myself. Having to re-adjust my mini target of losing 8lbs in 5 weeks. Now have 9lbs to lose in 4 weeks which is much less likely. I'll go with lose 5lbs in 4 weeks to take me to 2 stone in total. One step at a time etc. Good luck everyone!

Hi Woody,

Nice to hear that you are going away with hubby for a break, you deserve a little treat after the hard time you've had of late. No virtual kicks up the bum for me, just a BIG hug and hope you enjoy the meal and make a few wise choices. Take care. x  hug.gif .

P.S. Thanks for the compliments on my post, I try and do my best. x.

Hi singingmum,

Enjoy the meal out with hubby, it must be the time for husbands birthdays or something as it's Woody's husbands birthday at the weekend too.

I think the goal of 5lbs in 4 weeks is far more achievable too and that will be FANTASTIC if you manage this. Losing a couple of stones is no mean feat and I think I can see a virtual trophy coming your way then! Take care. Love, Catrina. x

smile.gif  Hi Mel,

Nice to hear from you and that you are enjoying being part of the Online Class and like my wee "talk" every week. We're glad to have you.

It is motivating to try and lose for the group, as I feel that myself, but don't worry if you have a bad week and can't, we all get them from time to time.

PLANNING really is the key to success with SS, so I hope we can all bear this in mind before going out for a meal. We can make bad choices or good its up to us really, but don't beat yourself up from what you've done, as always draw a line under it, learn from it and start again.

Wishing you a good pepping week ahead.

Take care. Love, Catrina. x

P.S. Isn't this weather FANTASTIC at the moment, just the tonic we all need, I think. x

Welcome Ellie smile.gif

i dont think you are aiming too high at all, I want to lose 4stone in total, but I set my first goal to lose 10% of my bodyweight (15lbs) and I have lost 12lbs so far - so not long to go and its really keeping me going knowing I am sooo close to this goal.

This forum is fantastic! I love the support from everybody, the online class is a great motivator and I also like the meal planner thread and find it helps me to document what I have eaten - even when I havent been very good lol.

GOOD LUCK!!!
