I can't wait to get going again. My 40 minutes daily walking is really helping. I want to start back exercising regularly even if it's just 10 min. I might try the gym on Wednesday but no running yet. I am aiming to be walking 3.5km before I start.
I've just checked and this year the Bradford run is a half-marathon on 2nd October. I might not be able to be ready for that but I want to run the first full marathon (which I expect will be after the lake is finished).

Hey good to see you all on board!
Id prefer treadmill too but it's so far away to go to the gym! Lol
And my car is stuck in the drive so running round the block it is!
Then I'll get my bike out! Hopefully once my bf cleans out our tiny cupboard I can get my bike in!
Planning on running tomorrow evening! Hope I can stay motivated xx

How was step to the beat bookhunter!? That sounds fun!! Is it a wii game!?
It was chucking down here and I was gonna do wii too but when I got home it wasn't raining anymore so I was good!
I went for a run around the block! Just a little one!
A mile in 11 mins- chuffed with that! Legs sore from Monday and can feel my shins a lot! Was going to go further but I don't want to injure myself so I'm happy with round the block! Theres a few inclines there that you don't notice in the car too!! Eek!!
My initial plan is to do 2/3 during the week around the 1/2 miles and then to do a longer 2/3 mile at the weekend depending on fitness levels! Haha
Hows everyone else getting on!? Xx

I managed to calculate the half-marathon speed I need to aim for if I'm going to do it in under 2 hrs 30 (which is quite long enough). The plan involes walking for 3 minutes and running for 1. There are a few options but I think I'd prefer fast running and slower walking but I have 9 weeks to get back into it before deciding if I'm doing it and if I should run or just walk.

Apr 22 2011, 12:42 PM
Wow bookhunter a half marathon!?
How long do you have to train? 2.30 hrs would be amazing!
Im just sitting in the gym, just did 5k, but at a very easy pace, took me 50 mins!
But not out of breath, im more worried about building up strenght in my legs and stuff first and not injuring my calfs or shins which always hurt!
Hope your all having a good day!?
Planning on running again sunday

It's in October. The training plan is 14 weeks and it's from Marathon Running for Mortals by John Bingham.
2 hrs 30 is 6.0 kph if you go at a steady pace. I know I can walk at that pace so it should be OK.
I might do EA Sports Active one day.
rebelsue2
Apr 22 2011, 08:25 PM
That's good! I ran at 6kph in the gym today!
I always run faster outside shorter distance, inside I run longer distance at a steady pace!
Id be happy getting back up to 10k in an hour! But I'm only managing 5k in 50 mins at the mo! So I need to build up my fitness!
Happy to have done that 5 today tho! I thought I'd be doing 2 to be honest!

I am going to need to build up my fitness too. Starting the beginners running plan outside tomorrow. My legs are absolutely aching today after walking for over 4 hours in the Cairngorms yesterday so am going to have a rest day today.

My sister saw Zest with her 2 favourite magazines so she bought the pack so I could have it and it's the running issue. It was the running made easy plan that got me into running properly so I'm really looking forward to reading it.
Tesco delivered my Lucozade jelly beans yesterday. I love them for after a run. If I'm at the gym it takes ages to get home and I hate wasting checks on snacks when I know I'll need proper food when I get home.

can i join you? i started running in january when i stopped smoking, tried doing to much too quickly and ended up with shin splints, ouch that hurts, so had to take a few weeks off, then i ended up with a double ear infection which led too other sinsus problems but i'm all better and started back 2weeks ago, doing 5k twice a week just now, starting a bootcamp tonight, going to slowly build up to go 3times a week, not easy as it depends on getting somebody to look after my girls
so what are you all aiming to do? mine is to be able to run the 5k without stopping

Apr 27 2011, 02:37 PM
Lynn course you can join!
My aim is just to lose weight and get fitter!
Ive had one day off but feels like ages! Planning on running either thur night or fri morning then again on Sunday/monday
I can easily run 5k on the treadmill but find it hard outside! I can manage about 3k outside but with a few breathing stops! Lol
Bootcamp sounds fun! I've thought about doing these but I think with my work I have some rubbish days where I just wanna go home! Lol
Anyway feel free to join in

I did a 10K a few years ago and it was great fun but still challenging.
No exercise today (except for walk to work). I've got a cold and it's affecting my asthma so I shouldn't do anything until it goes.
Parkruns are good for 5Ks if there is one near you.

I would love to be able to build up to a 10k. Did 3 miles on the treadmill in 31 1/2 mins today but I have to admit that it is hard work. I think a lot of it for me is about mind over matter and telling myself that i can keep going.

Apr 30 2011, 08:00 PM
That's a lot faster than I am at the mo! Just getting back into it myself!!
You could easily build up to a 10k just takes time and patience!

Well done on your running that's a fair few miles
This week I've done 5.5k which is not great I had a few days off to rest my calves and shins but they were still sore when I ran today so I don't think it's made any difference except I really struggled today after a few days off! Argh!
Reset my ticker so I can hopefully start loosing again and keep up the running!
As for times I've no idea- my aim is to build back up my distance and ill work on speed if I can after that!

Hi, I just started my training for running Race for Life in June today. Have been doing some training on treadmill at gym but this was my first 5km run outside to see what time I was achieving - completed it in 35 mins which I am happy with. I've got 8 weeks till actual raceday so hope to shave 5 mins off my time and do it within half an hour.
My training up to now has been on my walking as doing 10 mile Pink Ribbon Walk on 14th May but quite comfortable with achieving that so stepped it up a gear today - but don't want to overdo it and injure myself for PRW so will only be doing 1 or 2 runs per week for next couple of weeks.
It's good to have something to aim for other than just losing weight, gives you more incentive to not put off the training.

planning a 3miles run later on this afternoon, going to time it this time, see what i can manage it in

Well done guys your all doing well

nice one on the cycling Lynn I'm planning on getting back to cycling too altho I've no where to store my bike so it's a bit of a nightmare getting out as I have to go to the in laws to dig it out first then return it after?
I did 2.5k at the gym yesterday, felt pretty rubbish for some reason! I dunno if I may do a quick run round the block tonight too! I dunno how far!? Feelin pretty lazy for some reason! Prob cos I've had a few days off!! Oops!
Might dig the wii out and do some fun exercises!
Thinking about starting sit ups to flatten tummy too but dunno if it's helpful when I'm still fat!? Any ideas!?

I have been doing 3 miles each time that I go to the gym. I have been so motivated recently. Even tried to go to the gym after work on Monday (I work 12 1/2 hour shifts so have never been motivated enough to go to the gym afterwards before) but unfortunately it was shut because of the bank holiday. Did my 3 miles today although I did find it a bit harder having not been excercising for the last few days because of work and then went swimming afterwards. Think that i might give spinning a try if I can make it up in time - the class is at 7am! I have totally noticed that my weight losses have improved over the last couple of weeks - think that the excercise is now starting to help

. I did wonder about sit ups too and whether it was worth waiting a bit. I had been contemplating going to a legs, bums and tums class but then decided that it would be more beneficial keeping going with the running because the class makes my legs really ache and then I wouldnt be able to do the running
