How to avoid weight gain over Christmas

Christmas

Christmas is a time for family, friends and fun.

Often this can mean indulging a bit more than usual and as a result, gain a bit of weight.

Yet there are some ways you can cut down the fats and the calories in your food to maintain your weight during the festive season.

Here's how to eat and enjoy your pigs in blankets without gaining an extra layer.

Eat breakfast:

Start your day with a nutritious breakfast to fill you up and prevent you from snacking later in the day.

Schedule in activity:

Staying active during the festivities will help keep your weight down.

So even though it may look tempting to just sit down and chill all evening try scheduling at least a quick walk every day.

.Plate up right:

As tempting as it is to fill your plate with delicious stuffing, pigs in blankets and mash potatoes, it would be better to fill half of your plate with healthy foods.

Veggies and lean turkey for example are two very good options to counterbalance highly caloric foods.

Little indulgences:

Just because you are following a healthy eating plan doesn't mean you can't indulge a little. If you love a certain type of food then have a small portion. However, if there is a dessert on the table that you know you don't absolutely love then pass on trying it and save calories.

Mindful eating:

Christmas is a time for indulgent, rich food that you wouldn't normally eat throughout the year. Enjoy this food by savouring every bite. Take your time to taste the flavour and be aware of the delicious food you are eating.

Enjoy the non-food aspect of Christmas:

Don't focus too heavily on the food aspect of Christmas. Many other aspects come with the joy of Christmas. You have more free time to relax or start new hobbies. Enjoy the simplicity of life.
